Grappling

 

Hand to Hand Grappling is a close fighting technique used to gain a physical advantage such as improving relative position or causing injury to the opponent. Grappling covers techniques used in many disciplines, styles and Martial Arts that are practiced both as Combat Sports and for Self Defence.

Grappling most commonly does not include Striking or the use of Weapons, However, some fighting styles or martial arts known especially for their grappling techniques teach tactics that include strikes and weapons either alongside grappling or combined, grappling range, otherwise known as the clinch.

This is the range of judo, wrestling, sambo, the Thai clinch and many other standing grappling systems. Most of the time in these martial arts the goal is to establish grips and throw your opponent to the floor. The closest distance is the ground grappling range.

Ground grappling is the home of BJJ practitioners, submission grapplers, newaza specialists and catch wrestlers. Here they’re usually fighting for positional dominance and submissions like chokes, cranks, leglocks and armlocks.

Sunday Martial Arts Class

 

Sunday's Martial Arts Class Session (10:00 - 12:00) is taken a temporary detour from Sunday 3rd March 2024 until further notice.

This is due to the gym being used for filming / completing the Instructor's Hatton Boxing Course, as part of developing the instructor's skills further.

Other class sessions during the week (incl. Saturday) remain as normal. Please see class time table below.
